A new activty shared by Cathy in San Diego County!
A new activity idea from Cathy in San Diego County:
Just went to your workshop last night, had a great time. Thanks ! You were talking about saving stuff for crafts ( I save everything, much to my husband's dismay). I have two ideas for you for styrofoam packing material --- if you've haven't tried already. One is an activity, the other a craft. This is a great rainy day idea. Haul out the plastic wading pool you haven't used since last summer. Put it in the garage and fill with bio-degradable styrofoam packing noodles. Provide your child with shovel, scoops, buckets---anything you would use in the sand. Get in there with them if you will fit. Sometimes we play buried treasure, where I "bury" assorted toys under the styrofoam, and my sons will "dig" them out with a sand rake or shovel. When I'm done I just pour it back into a large garbage bag and store it for next time. Sweep the "crumbs" out to your driveway; they will melt away with the hose. The second idea is a craft. If you've ever seen how "Magic Nuudles" work --- Bio-degradable styrofoam noodles work the same way (but they're FREE). Get a large sponge wet and put it in the middle of a table. Provide child with a bucket of styrofoam noodles. When the styrofoam noodles touch the sponge they will get sticky. Then they will stick to paper, each other, etc. If they get too wet, they will melt away. I save styrofoam from anything ever shipped to me, but it also helps if you have a friend who does Discovery Toys, Pampered Chef, etc. -- they've always got styrofoam noodles !
